The Powering Change Workforce Development Investment is a part of Constellation’s broader commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a part of the initiative, Constellation has selected five flagship community organizations to receive a combined $1 million in financial support that will aid in addressing equity and employment gaps in underserved communities. 

“Constellation recognizes that systemic inequities have placed individuals in underserved communities at a disadvantage when it comes to accessing stable, family-sustaining jobs,” said Joe Dominguez, president and CEO of Constellation. “The five nonprofits that we have selected to receive grant funding through Powering Change are working tirelessly to close those societal gaps and connect people in our communities for long-term, good-paying careers.”

The goal of the of the workforce development effort is to create family sustaining jobs for community members and to aid in the diversification of the talent pipeline of the energy industry. Click here to learn about the organizations Constellation has partnered with in its Powering Change Workforce Development Investment.

Each of our nuclear sites are allocated $25,000 to distribute in the form of scholarships and educational funding to local community partners and high schools serving underserved and underrepresented minorities. These programs provide students and local workforce training program participants with the opportunity to experience nuclear career pathways through activities, tours, and demonstrations, including our Limerick Pottstown Promise Program. 

Constellation also provided up to $50,000 in scholarships to support high school students from underserved communities to participate in college summer camps and STEM education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Temple University, University of Illinois-Chicago, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, University of Michigan, and Villanova University.

To meet the diverse hiring needs of our organization and provide access to diverse talent, we have introduced the PowerEd program. PowerEd will amplify our university, community college and technical college partnerships with the expansion of scholarship programs, mentorship and local student pipeline initiatives across our business units. Constellation has established networks with select Tier 1 and Tier 2 partner universities to engage with students in various-STEM focused departments and collegiate diversity chapters. In addition, we will continue to expand our engagement with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) and minority-serving institutions to improve diversity within STEM majors through partnerships such as the InRoads HBCU+ program. 

Our Constellation Scholars program has committed more than $1.5 million in scholarships over 10 years to over 100 passionate underrepresented or underserved students who are looking to pursue careers in STEM. Throughout the year, Constellation employees provide networking, engagement, and mentoring opportunities for students while also introducing them to potential internship and career opportunities in their chosen field of study.
