Framingham Generating Station

Oil-fueled electric generation facilities are part of our Peaking Division, operating, as needed, during peak-demand periods and for load balancing

Framingham Generating Station is operated by Constellation. It is a three-unit, 31 megawatt (MW) oil-fueled electric generation facility located in Framingham, Massachusetts. The units at Framingham are used to provide much needed power and voltage support during peak energy periods. They have been instrumental over the last few years for providing voltage support in the Framingham area. The units can be operated locally or remotely and can be started without outside power within minutes from complete shutdown.

Constellation takes a safety-first approach in our culture and business practices. All Constellation generation facilities employ sophisticated emergency response plans to protect public health and safety. Plans are reviewed and approved by state governments and federal regulatory agencies. Emergency planning includes coordination with local and municipal officials, as well as thousands of volunteers and first responders.

To protect the safety and health of our employees, contractors, customers, and communities, we've implemented a number of initiatives to promote safe behaviors both on and off the job. These include a safety behavior observation program and focused initiatives on areas of high risk. We also offer safety training, which is integrated with leadership development programs for supervisors and managers, as well as new employee orientation. Finally, a safety peer group identifies successful pilot programs or new practices that can then be adopted by the entire organization.

Constellation’s power plants in Massachusetts pay local real estate taxes every year to support county and township government, area schools, libraries, park districts and other public services where our plants are located. Constellation also donates 300 winter coats to the nearby Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in Framingham each fall.
