Our Commitment to DE&I

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Constellation operates in a world rich in diversity including, among other things, race, ethnicity, religious belief and practice, gender identification, sexual orientation, disability, life experience, age, socioeconomic status, experience and thought.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) at Constellation will strengthen our ability to achieve our vision by:

  • Integrating diversity as a business imperative and core value.
  • Attracting, retaining, and advancing employees who will best understand and serve our vision, values, customers, partners, and communities.
  • Providing a workplace where we respect one another, that creates a sense of belonging, and in which each of us can grow and contribute at our greatest potential.
  • Creating and fostering an inclusive purchasing environment while building an ecosystem of sustainable relationships; expanding opportunities; and cultivating the growth of diverse businesses, including small businesses, that add value to Constellation and the communities we serve.

2024 DEI Report

We are excited to introduce Constellation's 2024 Inaugural DEI Report, that provides a deeper dive into our programmatic efforts, activities, and impacts advancing our four strategic pillars of Strategic Talent Sourcing, Workforce Development, Business (Supplier) Diversity, and Equity and Belonging primarily from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023.

Our Impact at a Glance

Strategic Talent Sourcing

Source talent through relationships, technology, and inclusive practices to broaden the talent pool and promote diversity. Learn more about our Talent Sourcing

In January 2023, Constellation launched the PowerEd program enhancing and expanding relationships with 11 universities. Our work focused on fostering mutual beneficial relationships often in the areas of research, talent acquisition, innovation, and knowledge exchange. We held and attended many events like career fairs, meet and greets, and internship exploration sessions. Scholarships and mentorship programs were also offered to help cultivate a dynamic pipeline of early talent and build a holistic relationship with university students and leadership.

Workforce Development

Improve career awareness, foster equal access and advance skills of workers from underserved communities and historically underrepresented individuals in the energy sector. Learn more about our Workforce Development efforts

In February 2023, we signed a historic diversity pledge with North America’s Building Trades Union to enhance access, equity, and advancement opportunities for historically underrepresented groups in the Building Trades. The pledge aims to eliminate bias and foster a culture of belonging in recruitment, hiring, training, and retention. Signatories, including 14 members of the North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) and several industry employers, have formed an oversight committee to facilitate efforts and share best practices.

We launched our $1.25 million Powering Change initiative. This new signature program provides grants to six nonprofit organizations; INROADS, SKILLUSA, CHICAGO WOMEN IN TRADES (CWIT), NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE, VEHICLES FOR CHANGE, AND HIRE360. Working with each of the organizations, we participated in a variety of programs focused on improving job awareness and training, providing advancement and upskilling opportunities, and breaking down employment barriers, helping us to amplify our impact in the community to promote equality in the current and future workforce.

Business (Supplier) Diversity

Create an inclusive supply chain that enables, equips, and empowers all suppliers, including small, local, and other diverse businesses, to thrive in our marketplace. Learn more about Supplier Diversity

Leveraging the collective intelligence and commitment of its employees, suppliers, and customers, Constellation spent over $521.8 million with diverse suppliers – 21.1 percent of our total Supply managed spend in 2023. Diverse suppliers are those that are authenticated by third party certification agencies that are recognized by Constellation.

To further our commitment to identify, engage and utilize diverse suppliers while creating an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable supply chain, in 2023, we established a Business (Supplier) Diversity Team which elevated the importance of economic inclusion internally and externally. In 2023, Constellation’s Business (Supplier) Diversity team was on the move, laying the foundation for the footprint required to set up a sustainable and economic-driven supplier diversity system, with a focus on outreach and education to expand opportunities for small, local, and other diverse businesses to compete for supplier contracts in our inclusive purchasing environment of thousands of suppliers.

Equity and Belonging

Eliminate barriers to participation and create opportunities for our employees by establishing a culture of inclusion and belonging.

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are business imperatives for us within the company and this year, we hosted our inaugural ERG Summit in Baltimore, uniting 120-chapterboard members and sponsors. This event rewarded, championed, and empowered our ERG leaders on a successful year of programming while preparing them for the next year.

In 2023, we introduced the first ever DEI Spotlight Awards, an employee driven, quarterly program to highlight those championing DEI across the company. Nominees for the awards are selected by their peers. The DEI Spotlight Awards recognize individuals at the manager level and below, while the DEI Leadership Spotlight Awards celebrate those at the senior manager level and higher.  Check out our 2023 DEI Spotlight Award Winners!

In partnership with the Leadership Councils, Constellation introduced THRIVE, a program designed to develop a diverse cohort of senior managers and directors. Graduating its first cohort, the program aimed to equip participants with skills in leading diverse teams, overcoming barriers, and promoting allyship and belonging. We take great pride in being able to offer new development initiatives, like THRIVE, to support the continual growth and advancement of our workforce.

Constellation Community Engagement and Recognitions

Constellation supports local and national organizations dedicated to professional development, community engagement, and advocacy for diverse populations.

DEI Indexes

In 2024, Constellation participated in the annual Disability:IN Equality Index, National Organization of Disability (NOD) Employment Tracker, and Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Corporate Equality Index. These benchmarking tools help us to assess our current state of LGBTQIA+ and disability inclusion and equality.

Constellation reached a top score of 100 and was recognized as a DEI Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion in 2024.

Pledges

Constellation has publicly committed to various DEI focused pledges to reinforce our commitment to fair treatment of and equal opportunities for all people both at Constellation and in the communities where we live, work, and serve.
